PERIODONTICS

Periodontology studies the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the tissues that support the dental organs to maintain the health, function and aesthetics of the teeth and their adjacent tissues.

The main periodontal diseases that affect teeth are periodontitis and gingivitis.

Periodontal disease manifests itself as gingivitis (inflammation and bleeding of the gums without affecting the bone) or periodontitis, where the destruction of the bone that supports the teeth occurs. If not treated in time, it can lead to tooth loss.

Periodontal treatment consists of correcting hygiene techniques to control plaque, eliminating the factors that cause it, such as dental calculus or tartar, and periodontal pockets.
